ISLAMABAD — A formal petition has been filed in the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) seeking the disqualification of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi for allegedly violating multiple articles of the Constitution by supporting candidates from the Insaf Lawyers Forum (ILF) in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Bar Council elections.
The petition, submitted by Advocate Mian Sibghatullah Shah, argues that the Chief Minister breached his constitutional oath and obligations by publicly endorsing ILF candidates during a visit to the Peshawar High Court on 29 October 2025. According to the petition, Afridi’s political involvement in a professional body’s elections undermines the neutrality required of his constitutional office.
Mian Sibghatullah contended that the Chief Minister’s actions constituted a violation of Articles 2-A, 4, 5, 6, 9, 22(7), and 25 of the Constitution, thereby raising serious questions about his integrity and adherence to constitutional limits. The plea maintained that Afridi, as the head of the provincial government, represents all citizens of the province and cannot lawfully participate in or promote the campaign of any particular group or organisation.
The petitioner urged the Election Commission to declare Sohail Afridi disqualified from holding public office and to immediately terminate his membership of the provincial assembly and his position as Chief Minister for breaching constitutional provisions and violating the sanctity of his oath.
