Gen Faiz planned May 9 attacks with 400 collaborators

A new revelation has emerged implicating former ISI chief Lt Gen Faiz Hameed as the mastermind behind the violent attacks on May 9, 2023, which targeted military installations across Pakistan. Sources claim that these attacks were orchestrated with the assistance of approximately 400 individuals to create an atmosphere of rebellion. Most of these alleged collaborators are now in custody, facing trials in military courts.

So far, 25 individuals have been convicted and sentenced by military courts for their involvement in these attacks. However, the military has refrained from publicly naming the planners and masterminds behind the events of May 9. A military spokesperson emphasised that true justice will only be served when the orchestrators are held accountable under the Constitution and laws of Pakistan.

The spokesperson confirmed that the convicted individuals were provided legal representation during their trials, and all judicial procedures were followed. Despite this, details about those currently on trial remain undisclosed. Notably, Gen Faiz Hameed, who was already under investigation for the Top City scandal, is now facing a court-martial for allegedly masterminding the May 9 attacks.

Government Report Points to PTI Involvement

A five-member committee, formed by the caretaker government, had earlier been tasked with identifying the facilitators, planners, and perpetrators behind the May 9 violence. The committee’s findings reportedly indicated that numerous PTI leaders were involved in the planning. Former Prime Minister Imran Khan is said to have played an active role in these preparations before his arrest.

The government’s report identified 34 individuals who devised the strategy for violent street demonstrations, 52 individuals accused of conspiring to carry out the attacks, and 185 individuals allegedly responsible for executing the plans. Although the report pointed to the involvement of several PTI leaders, it stopped short of naming any specific mastermind.

Evidence of a Coordinated Plot

Phone records of the attackers reportedly reveal that PTI leaders directed rioters, including those present at Jinnah House in Lahore, to attack specific military targets. Many detainees have confessed during interrogations that PTI leaders instructed them to incite violence and target key sites, such as the Lahore Corps Commander’s residence.

Imran Khan Denies Allegations

Imran Khan has dismissed the allegations as baseless and has repeatedly demanded the formation of a judicial commission to investigate the May 9 incidents. Despite his denials, thousands of videos circulating on social media depict PTI leaders and supporters participating in the violence.

Military officials have reiterated their resolve to ensure justice, with spokespersons emphasizing that the perpetrators of the May 9 attacks will not be forgiven. They have also urged PTI and its founder to publicly apologize for their alleged role in the tragedy.

This report sheds new light on the events of May 9 and the alleged involvement of high-profile figures, including Gen Faiz Hameed and PTI leaders, in what is being described as a calculated attempt to destabilize the state.
