LAHORE: In a proactive move, Information and Local Government Minister Amir Mir swiftly addressed the issue of overcharging slip fees at Shahpur Kanjran Cattle Market in Lahore. Acting on directives from Punjab Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi, Amir Mir conducted a visit to the market, summoning its head for an inquiry into the excessive slip fees charged for small and large animals.

Expressing concern over the imposition of double fees for small and large animals, instead of the prescribed Rs 100 and Rs 500, the provincial minister instructed an immediate resolution of complaints from both the public and market management. Emphasizing the need for prompt action against those found guilty of overcharging, Amir Mir questioned the deviation from the established slip fees.

Noting that complaints of extortion in the cattle market had previously reached the chief minister’s office, Amir Mir sought an explanation from the contracted company responsible for fee collection. He warned of potential contract cancellation if such unjust practices persisted, reinforcing the government’s commitment to fair dealings.

Additionally, Amir Mir directed the market management to expedite improvements in sanitation arrangements. The provincial minister issued a stern warning to the contracting company owners, stressing the urgency of rectifying the situation promptly to avoid severe consequences. This decisive action underscores the government’s dedication to ensuring transparency and fairness in the operation of public markets.
