The alleged unlawful marriage saga involving former Prime Minister Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi took a dramatic turn as Muhammad Latif, the housekeeper of Khawar Farid Maneka, the ex-husband of Bushra Bibi, unveiled startling details during proceedings in the court of Civil Judge Qudratullah.
Latif, an employee of Maneka, disclosed that Imran Khan used to visit Bushra Bibi’s house, claiming they had an “illicit relationship.” In his statement, Latif revealed that he was instructed by Maneka to keep an eye on the couple when they entered a room together. However, he alleged that both Khan and Bushra Bibi abused him and insisted he leave when he attempted to monitor the room.
When questioned by the judge, Latif asserted that neither Imran Khan nor Bushra Bibi allowed him to stay in the room, emphasizing that they would instruct him to leave. The explosive testimony led Latif to claim that the former Prime Minister and Bushra Bibi indeed had an illicit relationship.
The court has called for arguments on the admissibility of the case in the next hearing scheduled for December 8.
The controversy escalated when Maneka, in an interview with a private news channel, accused Imran Khan of interfering in his family affairs, alleging that Khan and Bushra had married during the iddat period. Imran Khan, however, vehemently denied these allegations during his first media interaction since being imprisoned, swearing on the Holy Quran that he saw Bushra Bibi’s face only on the day of their nikah (Islamic marriage).
The case took another twist when Mufti Saeed, who solemnised the marriage, and witness Aun Chaudhry declared in earlier statements that the wedding was not in accordance with Shariah and was illegal. Chaudhry revealed that in 2015, at the request of Bushra Bibi, Imran Khan divorced his then-wife Reham Khan through email while Reham was abroad. Chaudhry claimed that Imran sought “spiritual solace” from Bushra Bibi during a period of marital distress.
As the legal proceedings unfold, the public awaits further developments in this high-profile case that has captivated national attention.
