ISLAMABAD: Senator (Retd) Talha Mahmood of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) officially declared his allegiance to the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) during a press briefing today in Islamabad, flanked by PPP leaders.

Addressing the media, Mahmood emphasized the country’s current crisis and highlighted PPP’s historical efforts in ameliorating national circumstances. Reflecting on his extensive tenure, he noted his nine-year stint within the Ministry of Interior’s cabinet committee and his recent chairmanship of the Senate’s prominent Standing Committee on Finance since 2021, a position he held for three years.

In response to Mahmood’s joining, PPP leader Faisal Karim Kundi underscored their commitment to fortifying the party’s presence in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, hinting at forthcoming surprises in the Senate elections. Kundi criticized the delay in oath-taking by KP assembly members elected on reserved seats, branding it as a violation of legal and constitutional norms.

When questioned about any discord with JUI-F chief Maulana Fazl-ur-Rehman, Mahmood clarified his stance, expressing no animosity while affirming the appeal of PPP’s political platform. “At this juncture, Pakistan requires sagacity and unity,” he remarked.

Moreover, Mahmood alleged electoral malfeasance by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) in the recent general elections, asserting his mandate was compromised.
