ISLAMABAD: Supreme Court Justice Mazahar Ali Akbar Naqvi has responded to the second show-cause notice in the Judicial Council, The Scoop has learnt. In his reply, he emphasized the filing of two constitutional petitions in the Supreme Court, urging both to be scheduled for a hearing. Justice Naqvi requested the withdrawal of the show-cause notice issued to him.

Stating that his constitutional petitions are yet to be numbered, Justice Mazahar Naqvi proposed placing them before a three-member committee. He sent a copy of the reply to the Supreme Court’s three-member committee and submitted the response to the Registrar’s notice dated November 30.

Addressing the notice, Justice Naqvi asserted that the registrar lacks the authority to determine the admissibility of the constitutional petition. According to the law, only a three-member committee of judges can review such petitions. He clarified that his lawyer never indicated that the allegations wouldn’t raise legal objections after clarification.

Justice Naqvi highlighted that the objection against his Supreme Court appointment was clarified by the Chief Justice. After the Chief Justice’s explanation, he withdrew the objection, expecting the Judicial Council to acknowledge the mistake. He affirmed his intention to withdraw the show-cause, committing to fully adhere to the first constitutional petition filed on November 20.

Copies of the reply have been sent to Chief Justice of Pakistan Qazi Faez Isa, Justice Sardar Tariq, and Justice Ijazul Ahsan.
