In a recent surge of enforcement actions, Lahore’s Traffic Police, led by Chief Traffic Officer Ammara Athar, has intensified efforts to curb violations of traffic regulations, resulting in the issuance of a staggering 7757 E-Challans against errant drivers. Over the course of just two weeks, these stringent measures have led to fines amounting to a whopping 4.8 million rupees.
“The safety of our citizens is paramount, and we are committed to ensuring strict enforcement of traffic laws,” stated Chief Traffic Officer Ammara Athar, highlighting the department’s unwavering dedication to maintaining order on the city’s roads.
The crackdown, targeting drivers flouting traffic laws, has seen a significant increase in apprehensions, with numerous vehicles found guilty of multiple violations. To ensure comprehensive coverage, five dedicated teams have been deployed across the city, strategically stationed at key intersections and bustling thoroughfares including Mall Road, Jail Road, Main Boulevard Gulberg, Ferozepur Road, and Wahdat Road.
Defaulters have found themselves facing severe consequences as their vehicles are impounded at police stations and sectors, leaving owners unable to retrieve them without undergoing due process. Furthermore, in cases of repeated violations, drivers are stripped of essential privileges such as driving licenses and vehicle registrations, highlighting the zero-tolerance stance of the authorities towards reckless driving behavior.
To streamline enforcement efforts and enhance accountability, Safe City Punjab and Police Service Centers have seamlessly integrated the Driving License Issuance Management System, ensuring a more efficient and transparent process.
In light of these developments, citizens are urged to exercise caution and adhere to traffic laws meticulously. E-Challans are being issued rigorously for a range of offenses including disregarding traffic signals, flouting lane discipline, smoking while driving, and engaging in wrong-way driving.
Moreover, the authorities have issued a stern directive to crack down on individuals attempting to evade fines by tampering with vehicle number plates, emphasizing that such actions will not go unpunished.
