TANGERANG: Pakistan’s Maliha Ali won a bronze medal in the -73 kg category at the 6th Asian Open Kyorugi Taekwondo Championship, held from October 15 to 18, 2024, in Tangerang, Indonesia.

Representing Pakistan, Maliha, a student of Lahore Garrison University, demonstrated exceptional skill and determination throughout the competition, earning praise for her remarkable performance on the international stage.

The championship, which brought together more than 275 athletes from across Asia, including participants from India, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, the Philippines, Malaysia, Nepal, and Indonesia, witnessed intense competition. South Korea’s Shin Jeong Jin clinched the gold medal in the -73 kg category, while the silver went to Indonesia’s Maheshwari Nadira.

Maliha’s achievement not only highlights her personal dedication but also serves as an inspiration to aspiring taekwondo athletes across Pakistan. Her success reflects the growing talent in Pakistan’s martial arts scene and demonstrates the country’s potential to compete at the highest levels in international tournaments.

The Pakistani contingent, comprising 16 taekwondo athletes, arrived in Indonesia ahead of the championship with high hopes of leaving their mark on this prestigious event. The competition, held at the Indore Stadium Sports Center, provided a platform for athletes to showcase their abilities while fostering sportsmanship and collaboration among Asian nations.

Maliha’s bronze medal is a proud moment for Pakistan and a significant achievement in her promising taekwondo career.
