PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Ghulam Ali expressed concerns about security challenges hindering political activities in certain regions of KP and Balochistan as political parties initiate election campaigns before the upcoming general polls. During an interview with a private news channel, the governor acknowledged the unfavorable situation in areas such as Tank, Dera Ismail Khan, Lakki Marwat, Bannu, and Balochistan.

While discussing the conduct of general elections in these areas, Governor Ghulam Ali expressed reservations about the smooth execution of political activities by parties. He emphasized the government and state institutions’ responsibility to ensure peaceful elections, stating that the government must safely transport voters to the ballot box.

Regarding his communication with the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), the governor mentioned that it is the provincial government’s duty to address the situation. Despite recent incidents and ongoing security challenges, he stressed the need for the provincial government and institutions to formulate a strategy for the way forward, urging a swift progression toward polls while considering the political and economic landscape.

Responding to the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) claims of a lack of a level playing field, Governor Ghulam Ali dismissed them as invalid, highlighting that the party had conducted numerous rallies in KP. He cautioned against casting suspicion on the election process, emphasizing the importance of a transparent and credible electoral environment.

As Pakistan’s major political parties, including the Pakistan Peoples Party and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz, intensify their activities for the February 8, 2024, general polls, Governor Ghulam Ali underscored the significance of a smooth electoral process. Despite rumors of potential delays, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) recently finalized the delimitation of constituencies for the national and four provincial assemblies.
