ISLAMABAD: Federal Interior Minister, Mohsin Naqvi, has announced that strict action will be taken against those who attacked the capital. Among them is the Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Ali Amin Gandapur. Speaking to the media in Islamabad, Naqvi confirmed that today’s assault on the capital was led by Gandapur and a group of protesters.

Naqvi further disclosed that personnel from the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police participated in the protest. Eleven police officers from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have been arrested, and a high-level inquiry will be conducted. “This morning, the police were fired upon, but they showed restraint,” said Naqvi.

According to the Interior Minister, 564 individuals involved in the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) protest have been arrested, including 120 Afghan nationals. Naqvi assured that efforts are being made to reopen the roads swiftly, and mobile services will be restored within hours. He also stated that 57 Punjab Police officers and 31 Islamabad Police officers were injured in the clashes, with one officer in critical condition. “Those who wanted to see bodies were left disappointed. Our policy was clear—there should be no loss of life,” Naqvi added.

The PTI had planned to stage a sit-in at D-Chowk in Islamabad until 17th October in an attempt to disrupt the upcoming SCO conference. The protest, called by PTI on 4th October, saw Gandapur’s convoy reach Islamabad this afternoon.
