ISLAMABAD: A petition challenging the intra-party elections of the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) was submitted to the Election Commission of Pakistan on Tuesday.
Filed by PTI member Raja Tahir Nawaz Abbasi, a resident of Islamabad, with legal representation by Advocate Azizuddin Kaka Khel, the petition argues that the PTI intra-party elections deviated from the party’s constitution.
Alleging the formation of a dummy panel for the elections, the petitioner emphasized that it was the responsibility of the party’s secretary-general to conduct these internal polls.
The plea urges the ECP to declare the PTI intra-party elections null and void, directing the party secretary-general to organize a fresh round of polls.
In a parallel development, Akbar S Babar, one of PTI’s founding members, has decided to contest the intra-party polls and plans to submit a petition to the Election Commission.
Babar contends that the PTI intra-party elections were unconstitutional.
