Bilawal Bhutto Urges Reforms Following Supreme Court’s Bhutto Verdict

LAHORE: Chairman of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, addressed a seminar on “Bhutto Reference and History” organized by the People’s Information Bureau, PPP Central Punjab, at Alhamra Hall in Lahore on Sunday.

Chairman PPP stated that the Bhutto Reference is the result of the party workers’ prolonged struggle and the 30-year long struggle of the late respected martyr, Benazir Bhutto.

This reference was sent to the Supreme Court by President Asif Ali Zardari to seek justice for the late Quaid-e-Awam, Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto. The court heard the case and reached the conclusion that justice was not done with Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and the trial against him was also unjust.

“We consider this decision to be historic, and now that the court has acknowledged that the sentence against Zulfikar Ali Bhutto was wrong, we need to make judicial reforms,” Bilawal Bhutto Zardari said.

He further stated that we had agreed on judicial reforms in the Charter of Democracy – 90% of the performance was achieved on the Charter of Democracy, while 10% is still pending. The reforms we wanted to bring included the establishment of a constitutional court and the procedure for the appointment of judges.

The People’s Party will strive to bring about these reforms so that the judiciary becomes strong, and people get justice, and injustices against the Quaid-e-Awam are rectified.

Chairman Bilawal said that at present, there is a politics of hatred in our society. Politics has been turned into personal enmity. Despite all this, the Pakistan Peoples Party always believes in political negotiations and reconciliation. The 1973 Constitution was the result of consensus.

The 18th Amendment in the Constitution was done through consensus when Asif Ali Zardari became president. We consulted every political force present in the parliament for this.

Bilawal Bhutto Zardari said that people are troubled by inflation, unemployment, and poverty – terrorism is also a problem for the country and the people. If politicians do not talk to each other, how will these issues be resolved? President Zardari gave a message of reconciliation in the joint session of the parliament, but unfortunately, those who did not want reconciliation created chaos.

This behavior in parliament was not appropriate. The training of our party was given by Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto. Our role should be according to their training, and we should represent these great leaders.

Bilawal Bhutto Zardari said that during the recent general elections, the Pakistan Peoples Party had a theory, a manifesto, and a campaign. Our 10-point manifesto was there. The solution to the people’s problems lies with the Pakistan Peoples Party. After the elections, every government, whether federal or provincial, is implementing our manifesto points.

In his inaugural speech, the Prime Minister accepted that the ministries still with the federal government will be transferred. The idea of solar energy was given in our manifesto, and now the province of Punjab is adopting this point of our manifesto, and we should welcome it.

When we announced giving farmer cards during the election campaign, we were criticized, but now the Punjab government will distribute farmer cards among the farmers. They said that if half of our manifesto is implemented, the people will get great relief. The People’s Party will show that we will play a positive role and solve people’s problems. And this positive role and politics will lead the country forward.
