In 2024, Pakistan’s security forces and law enforcement agencies conducted an impressive 59,775 operations, resulting in the elimination of 925 terrorists, including key militant figures. This robust counterterrorism strategy, rooted in the state’s unequivocal stance against extremism, highlights Pakistan’s relentless efforts to eradicate terrorism.

Daily, over 169 operations were executed by Pakistan’s armed forces, intelligence agencies, police, and other law enforcement entities. These operations culminated in the neutralisation of 73 high-profile terrorists, including notorious individuals such as Fida-ur-Rehman alias Lal from Zhob Division, Ali Rehman alias Taha Swati, and Abu Yahya. Furthermore, 14 wanted militants surrendered, embracing the national mainstream, while two suicide bombers were apprehended, averting significant potential devastation.

Army Chief General Asim Munir’s unwavering position on terrorism and its facilitators has significantly shaped these operations. Emphasising Pakistan’s concerns over unchecked terrorist activities emanating from Afghan soil, General Munir declared, “The safety and lives of Pakistanis hold precedence over any other considerations.”

The international community has also recognised Pakistan’s determined stance, with a foreign publication commending the Army Chief as a resolute voice against terrorism and extremism.

Beyond counterterrorism, 2024 witnessed crackdowns on illegal activities such as smuggling, electricity theft, extortion, and hoarding. These efforts, underpinned by a clear state policy, significantly curbed unlawful activities, dismantling networks that often serve as conduits for terrorism.

General Munir’s adept military diplomacy further positioned Pakistan as an important player on the global stage. Enhanced bilateral relations with key nations and increased foreign investments marked major diplomatic achievements. Pakistan emerged as a vocal advocate for oppressed communities in Gaza, Lebanon, and Kashmir, earning accolades for its proactive role in international forums.

On the diplomatic front, Pakistan hosted the landmark Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) conference, welcoming high-level delegations from China, Russia, Iran, and other member states. Numerous agreements signed during the year further underscored Pakistan’s growing global stature.

As the year concluded, Pakistan’s effective counterterrorism operations and diplomatic strides highlighted its resolve to safeguard its sovereignty, ensure national security, and strengthen its international presence.
