Lahore: Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Central Punjab Information Secretary Shahzad Saeed Cheema has stated regarding the approval of the Defamation Bill that the PPP’s position on the Defamation Bill is clear and unwavering.

He emphasised that casting doubts on anyone’s intention to approve the bill is unjustifiable. In a statement, Shahzad Saeed Cheema emphasised that the media trial faced by PPP during Zia’s era and other regimes was unprecedented, surpassing the trials experienced by other political parties. He asserted that tarnishing the freedom of expression with allegations is not our style.

He forcefully stated that blaming the Governor of Punjab on this issue is equivalent to defamation and slander, as Sardar Saleem Haider’s overseas trip was already planned, and linking his personal activities to the approval of the defamation bill is malicious.
