LAHORE: Sardar Saleem Haider Khan, a member of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), officially took on the role of Governor of Punjab on Friday, as reported by Express News. The swearing-in ceremony, held in Lahore, saw Chief Justice Shahzad Ahmad Khan of the Lahore High Court administering the oath to Haider. Notable attendees included PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, former Punjab Governor Baligh Ur Rehman, and other dignitaries.

During the ceremony, Maryam was positioned on the stage, while Bilawal sat in front of it. As Haider took the oath, PPP supporters enthusiastically chanted slogans of ‘long live Bhutto’. Some supporters managed to breach the security cordon and ascend onto the stage.

The swearing-in ceremony, originally scheduled for Sunday, was rescheduled due to ‘unavoidable’ circumstances. The appointment of governors was made by the president based on the advice of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, in accordance with Articles 48(1) and 101 of the Constitution. The prime minister and PPP chairman finalised the selection of governors during their meeting at the Prime Minister’s residence.
